LUDO for Playdate

Playdate is a cute pocket-sized game console with a black-and-white screen and a crank on the side that you use to control the games. It's especially loved by indie developers for its simplicity and charm. I got mine recently, and apart from playing games on it, I really wanted to learn how to make my own.

idea & implementation

I built my own version of the classic Ludo (also known as Pachisi) board game for my Playdate and launched it on itch.io.

I had very little coding experience before this, so I was learning Lua, the programming language, and the Playdate SDK (its development toolkit) as I went. I'm especially proud that I didn't use AI at any step and managed to finish it in just six weeks.

Shortly after launching Ludo on itch.io, I was interviewed by Cranko, a magazine dedicated to all things Playdate. The piece ran in their 7th edition, the April 2026 issue.
